Hurricane Harbor

Membership, Season Pass or one day ticket?

The 2022 Season Pass includes Free Parking and Six Flags Magic Mountain admission for a limited time. Feel free to purchase the Season Pass by itself at $59.99 or along with the Premium Dining Pass at $169.98 until either perk is removed.

Normally (without Season Pass limited upgrades), I recommend a Platinum or higher membership which can be cancelled after 12 months. Go three times and you're golden.

Platinum and Diamond tiers get free parking, a permanent drinking cup and the unlimited soda refills perk.

Season Pass offers the best choice due to the limited time perks. Please verify that your 2022 pass includes Magic Mountain and Free Parking before buying.

Normally (without Season Pass limited upgrades), if you only want to visit our local Hurricane Harbor, go with the $59.99 Season Pass that includes next year while skipping the Meal add-ons. Avoid buying any food and drinks inside the park or you will end up spending more than the Platinum membership with Deluxe Dining over time.

For your first time:

  • You must visit our local Hurricane Harbor which closes in early October before it will work at Magic Mountain
  • Get your Season Pass or Membership Card then activate it on the Six Flags app
  • Get your Membership or Deluxe Dining drink cup at Member Services

Cost while inside Hurricane Harbor?

After picking up a Platinum membership with Deluxe Dining, the cost is low to free.

  • You might want to share a locker which can be used throughout the day
  • You can buy a tube rental
  • If you want merchandise, that's all on you

Overall, we play in the park with food and drinks included. It feels like an all inclusive stay. Magic Mountain puts Hurricane Harbor to shame on taste but free food will either cost up front, keep your visits short or take precious time due to inconvenience.

What should I bring?

  • Waterproof pouch for your phone
  • Comfortable swimwear like water moccasin or thong style shoes
  • Hooded, long sleeve swim shirt or any other rash guard style for sun protection
  • Eyewear adjustable retainer to keep your shades from flying off unless you pocket or don't use one
  • If you drove, bring the key

Should I purchase the dining add-on with my season pass?

Yes, go with Deluxe Member Dining unless you have a small enough appetite for Basic. Go four times and you're golden.

To avoid eating at the park, you can smuggle snacks and leave food with drinks in your vehicle especially with a cooler. Going off site will cut into slide time.

Should I purchase the drink cup?

Yes. This will work at every Six Flags park. The Platinum and higher membership tiers include drinks.

To avoid paying for drinks at the park, you can bring in fully sealed water or an empty, reusable bottle. At concession locations you can ask for a tiny, water filled cup or two. If you buy drinks on site, it makes sense to get a yearly drink cup or Platinum membership.

How do I Bring a Friend Free?

This periodic, membership perk only applies to your home park which is Hurricane Harbor.

Launch the Six Flags app.

  1. My Six Flags
  2. My Rewards & Coupons
  3. Current & Future
  4. Look for Bring a Friend Free

If you have this, it will show multiple days. You can bring someone that day and show your barcode at admission. This can only be used once for each group of days.

Magic Mountain

When?

2022

  • September 17th

These are based on estimates to avoid long lines.

Worth it?

Yes. Your Platinum membership looks good with just two trips to the “Thrill Capital of the World” even if you skip the fun of our local Hurricane Harbor!

Cost while inside Magic Mountain?

After picking up a Platinum membership with Deluxe Dining, the cost is moderate to low.

Unlike Hurricane Harbor, getting to your vehicle takes too much time.

What can we do at the park?

We start the day by minimizing the time spent in lines while maximizing our fun.

Magic Mountain contains the most roller coasters in the world. These are my favorites:

My S Tier

  1. X2
  2. Tatsu
  3. Twisted Colossus

My A Tier

  1. Full Throttle
  2. West Coast Racers
  3. Goliath ← my controversial opinion

What is the bare minimum to bring in?

  • Phone that runs our state Driver's License app, Google/Apple Pay and the Six Flags app
  • If you drove, bring the key

What is convenient to bring in?

Bring food and snacks into Magic Mountain along with sealed water bottles. Entrance security understands that you have food allergies or preferences that are unavailable inside.

  • Six Flags drink cup or a refillable water bottle
  • Carrier sling on the refillable drink for a distinct look and easy cross body carry
  • Zippered fanny pack so you can secure your pocketable items while on looping coasters
  • Eyewear adjustable retainer to keep your shades from flying off unless you pocket or don't use one
  • If you go on water rides or it's raining, a Ziploc to protect anything that can be damaged when soaked

Purses and cross body packs are not allowed on roller coasters. You are allowed to wear a small, zippered fanny pack that wraps around your waist.

Universal Studios Hollywood: Halloween Horror Nights

When?

2022

  • September 16th with a single After 2 PM Day/Night admission ticket

These are based on estimates to avoid long lines.

How many Halloween Horror Nights attractions can we experience in one evening?

Entering the park after 2p will allow us to fast track three popular horror night houses before 7p.

  • Queue up at the holding area nearest our first house around 5:30p
  • First house starts at 5:45p
  • Second house should finish as Halloween Horror Nights early attendees start trickling in
  • Third and possibly fourth house wait times remain quick

After that, we can:

  • Experience less popular attractions
  • Board the Terror Tram which drops us off in the studio backlot
  • Check out the Scare Zones
  • Enjoy the Stage Shows

Finally, we finish with one or two popular attractions as the crowds thin.

Worth it?

Absolutely not.

Costs will be very high for this “experience” so I recommend against it but we're still going.

  • $99 HHN General Admission starts at 7p with some early availability after 6p
  • $139 After 2 PM Day/Night allows earlier entry with all available park attractions

If you have a healthy budget with conventions and other social activities covered, feel free to consider Halloween Horror Nights. Otherwise, come join us at Hurricane Harbor!
